The camshaft position sensor signal is not detected by the Engine Control Module ECM during the first few seconds of engine cranking. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft intake to identify a particular cylinder.

    dodge code 11

The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor. When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change.

The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.

When the crankshaft position sensor POS system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals. Home - About AutoCodes. Posted and Edit by AutoCodes.I was low on gas so I drove to the gas station to fill up. After I filled up I pulled in to the highway. As I got on the high way it start to drive fine but after a minute or two it started to sputter and misfire.

So I pulled it over and parked it. I though at first I got bad gas so I siphon some gas out of the tank but it looked good. So then I checked the spark on the ignition coil and it was red not blue. So I figure the problem is electrical. I had the coil tested and it passed. I then started to look at the distributor and the pulse ring in the distributor was rubbing the pick up coil so I replaced the distributor and pick up coil.

It sounds better at start up but after it starts it bogs down and starts to misfire. If you give it gas the truck doesn't really know what to do it doesn't rev it feels like the engine is trying to shut itself off as if it is retarding the timing. It seems like its out of time but had the 1 piston at top dead center.

I never moved the engine when I replaced the distributor so it should have been in time when I replaced it. I though it maybe the timing chain because of code 11 Timing belt skipped 1 tooth or more from initial learned value, Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking but I want to be sure. I was told it was the timing chain or crank sensor?

What else can I test? Do you. Hi greenchevymalibu, Thank you for the donation. What is the engine capacity? Was the trouble code erased and retested?

The title heading was truncated due to lack of space so the last part is missing. Can you please update on it? This could have been set when the distributor failed.

If the code is new, the replacement distributor could be bad as well.

Code 12 is not listed in our database but it should be related to the distributor as well. Reconfirm the code. A possible fault with the coolant sensor and that can cause difficult starting and poor running. If the distributor is adjustable, it is possible the ignition timing is incorrect due to the installed position. I would suggest erasing the trouble codes, run engine and recheck the trouble codes. Was this answer.

I reset pcm and same codes. I didn't move the engine when installing distributor and I check three times and ever time I checked top dead center the rotor was pointing to the number one cylinder mark on the pick up coil.Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors.

Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS circuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual. For approximately 3 minutes after the cables are removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt pre-tensioner to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes have passed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

Please proceed at your own risk. Cars by name Trucks and Jeeps. The engine has not cranked since the battery was disconnected. The power limited light will not light and limp mode does not apply. This code shows up when the computer has been reset and the engine has not cranked or, if cranked no signal was received from the ignition sensor Hall Effect Pickup, or HEP.

If the HEP fails it will not throw a code. To test for a bad HEP reset the computer and try to start the engine. Code 11 will also present if the computer has been reset and the timing belt is broken. This could be caused by something simple like the battery being disconnected and the ECU has not seen a signal from the engine to indicate that the engine has turned over or an attempt to start it.

The code 11 would NOT be present if the engine has started since the battery was disconnected or since the ECU lost power. Another possibility would be that there is no signal from the ignition sensor. The HEP is a magnetic sensor which charges when the shutter plate is not present in the gap, and produces a voltage. When the shutter plate enters the gap as the distributor turns, the signal is disrupted and the ECU grounds the primary coil circuit, which fires the plugs.

If there is no continuity in the Hall Effect sensor as the distributor shutter passes through the gap, then either the HEP is bad or the connections at the end of the wires have broken.

Otherwise the HEP will have to be replaced. When you reconnect the HEP connectors to the harness, be sure to use dielectric grease on the connector to prevent corrosion and shorts. Hall Effect Pickup or timing belt failure - Code 11 will not show up if the HEP fails or if the engine fails to start.

To see if the HEP is bad, disconnect the battery and try to restart the engine. If after a failed attempt to restart the engine code 11 is present, either the HEP has failed or the timing belt is broken.

Diagram based end line resistor wiring diagram

If the timing belt is broken, the distributor will not turn while the engine is cranking from the starter and code 11 will not be erased when the starter is run. The good news on timing belt breakage is that 2. There are times when an engine can be badly damaged even with this design, so change your timing belt on schedule. The bad news is that you need a new timing belt ; generally it makes sense to replace the tensioner and water pump at the same time. For turbo engines there are two wires and three prong connectors coming from the HEP.

One is the ignition reference sensor and the other is the fuel injector sync sensor cables. These often get pinched where they exit from the sensor and under the distributor cap.

Care must be taken when replacing the distributor cap as to not pinch these wires between the Hall Effect pickup HEP and cap. When you replace the HEP, be sure the cables are clipped or tied to the distributor cap shroud or elsewhere so they do not get knocked.

These pages helps to describe the fault codes for the Chrysler electronic fuel injection engine control units ECU for 2. Before we begin the process of learning what if any codes have been set in the computer, it is a good idea to understand the components involved. The ECU is a computer with a processor, memory, and some read-only memory which holds fuel tables and other values used to make decisions about drivability and performance.

It also contains the voltage regulator circuit after ; power circuits for ignition, fuel injection, and relay drivers. It receives the engine sensor information, decides how to react, and passes signals to the PCM to adjust engine operation.

In later years s and upthe Power Control Module and logic module were combined into one computer, called either a SMEC or SBEC, and stored in the engine bay, usually near the battery; a Body Control Module inside the car, behind the kickpad, controls functions such as lights, power locks, and timers. It is important to understand the different sensors. There are pages which detail each of these but here is a brief definition. Click on the name of the sensor to read a more detailed explanation.

Be sure the engine is not running. This means that within 5 seconds:. One of the first diagnostic steps is to see if the light comes on at all. Looking at the Power Limited light, count the flashes.

CODE U11AD LOST COMMUNICATION WITH LEFT SIDE SATELLITE SENSOR 4 DODGE JEEP CHRYSLER

These will come in sets of two flashes. This will be followed by five flashes and a pause then five more. Codes will always end in a code 55 and there will be no more flashes. Usually fault codes will remain in the memory of the ECU for about 15 engine starts. If you want to clear these codes after you've repaired the system, you can do so by disconnecting the battery for a short time which will also wipe out your radio stations; if you have a four-speed automatic, it should be retrained.
